MODE Racing made their official debut at Redline Time Attack during Round 2 at Willowsprings International Raceway in Rosamond, CA. The table was set as the MODE Racing’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T made its way from its engineering and fabrication facility in Salt Lake City, Utah to the hot and humid conditions at the “Fastest Track in the West”. Over 100 cars were on the grid from the stock, street, modified, and unlimited classes and MODE Racing was the single modified class Hyundai Genesis in attendance.
New modifications included a full roll cage, white Enkei Racing wheels, MODE Racing prototype turboback exhaust system, MODE Racing prototype intake, Stoptech 6-pot Front Brakes, coilovers, a Sparco Circuit seat, interior weight reduction, Sparco steering wheel, and a performance ECU piggy back system. The track is known to favor the higher horsepower vehicles but with some weight reduction and slight power bump, driver and owner of MODE Racing, Billy Brooks, was still optimistic about the Genesis’ performance. “Although many of the cars in the Modified Class are pushing close to 400 to 500 wheel horse power, we are hoping that this event will give us more data and feedback to allow MODE Racing to develop the Genesis Coupe for more power, superior handling, and optimal braking.” The MODE Racing Genesis Coupe also gave much credit to the platform as many spectators, manufacturers, and drivers / teams saw the potential of the Genesis Coupe. “We hope our presence shows how MODE Racing is leading the way in performance of both the 2.0 Turbo and the 3.8 V6 models and that we will be showing up at Redline Time Attack proving our commitment to motorsports and the Hyundai platform.”
As a Redline Time Attack franchise team, MODE Racing was featured on the official Redline Time Attack poster. Driver Billy Brooks was able to talk to many of the fans that came by during the official driver signings and received a lot of positive feedback for the Genesis Coupe. Driver Billy Brooks even got praise from Hyundai Motor America staff as they roamed the pits. Needless to say MODE Racing is extremely proud that Hyundai Motor America took notice of their efforts.
At the end of the event, MODE Racing was able to pull off a respectable lap of 1:39.456 even with several issues typical of developing a new platform. MODE Racing plans to use this event as a benchmark for the next Redline Time Attack and the Hyundai Genesis promises to be a whole new beast at that point. “We are excited to see how much the Genesis Coupe will transform in the next few weeks and with the Genesis Coupe making its show debut at SPO-COM in a couple of weeks, we are sure that the Genesis Coupe will make even more of an impact than it has already.” MODE Racing would like to thank the following sponsors and supporters for their ongoing help: Enkei Wheels, Toyo Tires, JRZ Suspensions, HB Speed, Instyle Graphics, Motul, Schroth Racing, Genesisforums.org and Stoptech.
