After close to two months since the last Time Attack that MODE Racing has participated in, the 2.0 Turbo Hyundai Genesis Coupe has now transformed from a street driven car to a full blown Modified Class Time Attack Machine. The next destination for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is the “Fastest Track in the West”, the legendary Willowsprings “Big Willow” Raceway in Rosamond, CA for Round 2 of the Redline Time Attack.

Extensive modifications have made the Genesis Coupe more competitive and subsequently, better tuned for the track. Redline Time Attack Franchise Driver and Owner Billy Brooks, commented on the progress of the Genesis Coupe: “First thing that we did was to strip it of excess weight which this Genesis Coupe has a lot of. The interior trim and sound deadening is all gone. The only thing that is left is the dash. We were also able to make custom sets of seat brackets that MODE Racing will be selling shortly and replace the heavy stock seats with lightweight Sparco Racing seats. We’ve been able to shave close to 300lbs. from the factory curb weight which should make a noticeable difference.”

In addition to weight reduction, MODE Racing has been able to do some power up items to increase the horsepower. “We learned a lot from the last Time Attack that we were at and that we needed a lot of power due to the weight and the stock suspension. The past few weeks, we have been able to create prototype models of our down pipe, test pipes, hard intercooler pipes, and a race spec exhaust. These items should be available shortly for performance enthusiasts. Overall, during the progress of improving the Genesis, we found that Hyundai did its homework that it was very modification friendly and it made almost everything effortless at times.” Commented Billy Brooks.

With a set of stiff race coilovers, sway bars, and specific alignment settings, handing of the vehicle should be much improved from before and the difference will be noticed right away. Redline Time Attack Round 2 should give MODE Racing a better look at how well the Genesis Coupe handles and what kind of improvements that MODE Racing can make. The collected data from each event, MODE Racing will put that into their products for development and will accelerate the racing product releases.

Redline Time Attack (http://www.redlinetimeattack.com) will run from May 30th and 31st at Willowsprings Raceway in Rosamond, CA and will be competing in the highly competitive Modified Rear Wheel Drive Class. MODE Racing could not have achieved their goals without the help of our sponsors and supporters: Stoptech Brakes, Toyo Tires, Enkei Wheels, Scroth, JRZ Suspension Engineering, RobiSpec, Poweraxel, GOTO Racing, Instyle Graphics, and HB Speed.
