Hours before unveiling the new $300k hand-built C16 Speedster on the lawn at Pebble Beach, supercar builder Callaway Cars called on the surface care experts at Meguiar’s for a little help. After traveling across the country and undergoing some last minute tuning, the 210 MPH topless exotic needed a thorough detailing before its debut at the worlds most exclusive car show. With less than 24 hours until this debut, and sporting a fresh coat of Laguna Blue paint, a Meguiar’s team agreed to step in and generate their hallmark flawless, show car finish.

The results garnered rave reviews at Pebble and then to top it off, the still glistening 210mph exotic was awarded the Mother’s Shine Award at the 2007 SEMA Show just a few months later.

“I am thrilled with the work Meguiar’s did on the Speedster,” says Peter Callaway, General Manager of Callaway West. “They worked on every part of the car polishing, waxing, and covering every last detail. The results are absolutely stunning and the paint looks a mile deep. The finish is so slick the drape wouldn’t stay on the car before the official debut.”

Meguiar’s employees Darin Pereira and Chris Mills are both die-hard car guys and fans of the iconic Callaway Cars brand. They relished the opportunity to work on the supercharged and intercooled 700-horsepower C16 Speedster that sports twin wind deflectors and extended headrests, exquisite bodywork, and a hand-tooled German leather interior.

Darin tackled the exterior, which was freshly painted and needed minor finishing work. Flaws and swirls were removed with Meguiar’s Unigrit® Finishing Paper, followed by Solo™ Cut and Polish. The finish was taken to the next level using Speed Glaze, applied with a rotary buffer and by hand, revealing a flawless high gloss finish. A final application of Ultimate Quik Detailer® gave the paint a mile-deep, wet-look shine.

While Darin refined the paint, Chris detailed the interior. The C16 Speedster’s interior is loaded with leather, suede, and high-tech electronics, so Chris used Quik Interior Detailer™ to leave a natural finish on the dash, seat bolsters, and touch screens. Then he cleaned and clarified the Speedster’s dual windscreens with Mirror Glaze® Clear Plastic Cleaner and Mirror Glaze® Clear Plastic Polish, ensuring the driver and passenger get a crystal-clear view of every high-speed curve.

Final Inspection® was used to wipe down the carbon wheels, wheel wells, engine components, and door jambs to preserve the surface’s matte finish. The supercharger and all other polished engine components were hand polished with Hot Rims® Mag & Aluminum Polish.

Two months later, the car was on display at the Stoptech Brakes booth at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. The Shine Award honors uncompromising excellence in motor vehicle design and execution, and Meguiar’s is proud to have provided the detailing and final finishing stages of this outstanding automobile.
