BFGoodrich Tires had an impressive showing as the 2008 Formula Drift season kicked-off with on the streets of Long Beach last weekend. Two-time Formula Drift champion Samuel “The Crazy Swede” Hübinette captured the top qualifier honors and continued his momentum straight through to the finals where he earned a runner-up finish behind the wheel of his NuFormz Racing Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10 equipped with BFGoodrich g-Force T/A®KDW tires.

Hübinette was in familiar territory behind the wheel of his Dodge Viper SRT10, as it was the same car in which he captured the 2006 Formula Drift title. As the eliminations progressed, Hübinette trounced Kenji Yamanaka and Ryan Tuerck to set up a semifinal match with 2007 title holder Tanner Foust. The battle between the formidable drift champions was intense and was concluded by a “One More Time” elimination round, with Hübinette moving on after Foust lost his drift near the end of the course.  In the final, Hübinette came out on the losing end of yet another exciting “One More Time” match up, this one with Chris Forsberg.

“What a weekend. We qualified No. 1, and we’re very happy about that,” said Hübinette. “I got second place, which is still a good chunk of points, the car ran great and the BFGoodrich KDW’s gave me all the traction I needed. We’re just excited to move on to the second round and keep fighting to bring back the championship.”

The team will now make the trip east for the Round Two: “Feel the Heat” Formula Drift event, scheduled for May 9-10 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.
