Tire Rack- Revolutionizing Tire Buying

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima combined experience, skill, Suzuki and Falken to once again claim overall victory in the 87th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.  Although he did not set a new record with his championship, Tajima continues to hold the current overall record for reaching the peak.  He drove a Suzuki Sport SX4 Hillclimb Special, and competed on Falken ZIEX S/T Z04 Pikes Peak Special tires. “Monster’s” accomplishments are just one part of Falken’s extensive North American motorsports efforts.  The company, based in Southern California, recognized the importance of drifting early on and has committed to a five-car factory effort in Formula Drift, with additional support for a number of privateer entries.

The 87th running of Pikes Peak will see the veteran driver pitted against three “rookies” in the Unlimited division as all four will try to crack the Peak’s elusive under 10-minute barrier. Rookies only in their debut in the “race to the clouds,” rally legend Marcus Gröholm, holder of 30 World Rally Championship victories and two titles, and four-time Swedish Rally Champion Andreas Eriksson, both from the Olsberg Motor Sport Evolution team of Sweden, will each field a Ford Rallycross Fiesta.  The fourth combatant is British Rallycross Champion Mark Rennison, who brings his famous 1999 Ford RS 200 to the Peak.

Facing serious challenges from both competitors and the weather, Team Falken put on a valiant effort, but when it rolled the dice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Round 4 of the demanding Formula Drift competition, the team managed to make the Semi-Finals with Falken’s Tyler McQuarrie losing to eventual overall winner Tanner Foust.  McQuarrie placed fourth. With track temperatures peaking at 145, and air temps at 110, great stress was placed on the high-revving engines of all competitors as well as the drivers themselves.  During the consolation round to determine third place, McQuarrie suffered camshaft position sensor failure, but his crew was able to replace it in less than five minutes.
