After contending for the Drivers’ Championship in the Grand-Am Koni Challenge last year, the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) returns on May 15-16, 2009, to Laguna Seca Raceway which serves as the fourth round in this very competitive series. Returning drivers Kristian Skavnes and Andrew Aquilante will share driving duties in their #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B sedan. After a one-year hiatus from the Grand-Am Street Tuner class visiting this historic race course, SRRT is looking forward to a strong showing at this exciting venue.

The Subaru Road Racing Team, along with its drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, left the New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt Raceway circuit with a firm grip on third place in the Manufacturer points and second place in the Driver Championship points. Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and co-driver Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., drove the SRRT Phoenix #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B sedan to a sixth place finish in the 2h30m race.

Subaru Road Racing Team drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kris Skavnes enter the third race of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge tied with two other drivers for the series points lead, following a fifth place finish in Saturday’s thrilling 2h30m race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. The 30-car race featured a stirring drive by the 21-year old Aquilante, of Phoenixville, who started the race from the pole position, which he earned by a minuscule 0.003 seconds on the last lap of Friday’s qualifying sessions.

The Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) opened its 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series racing season with a strong second place finish Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Both SRRT teammates, Andrew Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and Kris Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., drove well enough to lead the race during their respective stints.  Aquilante qualified the #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B on the pole in a field of 32 other Street Tuner competitors and led the first 29 laps.

Buoyed by a successful early January pre-season testing session at Daytona International Speedway, the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT), which is a Subaru factory team effort, is prepared to capitalize on lessons learned in last year’s Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge season. SRRT’s racing season starts Friday afternoon on Daytona’s combination oval track and infield road course. Joe Aquilante, owner of the Phoenixville, Pa.-based team, has built the winning car for two of the team’s six previous races at Daytona. The team has been methodically preparing their Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B. cars for this year’s Street Tuner class.
