Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes drove a focused race enroute to a fifth place finish in the four-hour Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge road racing series season finale at VIRginia International Raceway near Danville, Va. When the checkered flag flew on the last lap of the season’s final race, Aquilante and Skavnes, drivers of the #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, had finished second in the Street Tuner class’ season-long Drivers’ Championship.

Serving as the final round of the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge road racing series, VIRginia International Raceway sets the scene for championship-seeking drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, co-drivers in the Subaru Road Racing Team’s (SRRT) #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B. The consistent, resilient duo currently holds second in the series Drivers’ Championship points, 31 points out of the lead, with the season’s final race set for Sunday at VIRginia International Raceway near Danville, Va.

The tenth of 11 races in the 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series season, this weekend’s 2.5-hour run on the massive 4.486-mile, 24-turn road course west of Salt Lake City in the Utah desert, known as Miller Motorsports Park, will take place on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4pm ET. Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, co-drivers in the Subaru Road Racing Team’s (SRRT) #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, will enter the race sitting in second place in the Street Tuner class points, 25 points from the championship lead.

Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes came into Saturday’s Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge 24 points out of the lead for the series Driver Championship. Following the two-hour, 30-minute race at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala., the duo sit six points closer to that goal, thanks to a third place finish, only 10 seconds away from the top rung of the winners circle. The points leader finished seventh today. The team’s #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B., prepared by Phoenix Performance in Phoenixville, Pa., headed the 21-car pack twice – for four total laps - during Aquilante’s 45-lap stint. Subaru is one of nine car manufacturers represented in the KONI series’ Street Tuner class.

The successful finish also allowed Subaru to retain its fourth place in the Manufacturer Championship points.

In the eight-and-a-half-year history of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge road racing series, only two teams have won three consecutive years at the same track. The duo races a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B.  Subaru is one of nine car manufacturers who go head-to-head on the race tracks in the series’ Street-Tuner class. “Of course we’d like to have finished higher,” said team owner Joe Aquilante, “but we led the race, and the Subaru was still capable of turning laps that were faster than our qualifying speeds late into the race.”

As auto racing accidents go, this was relatively small, but the repercussions cost the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) valuable points toward their goal of the Manufacturer and Driver Championships in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series. On lap 94 of last Saturday’s 134-lap race on the 1.53-mile Lime Rock Park circuit near Lakeville, Conn., an over-anxious driver running behind SRRT driver Kristian Skavnes nudged Skavnes off the track while the Sparta, N.J., driver was running seventh in the Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race car.

The Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series hits the middle of its 11-race season Friday at Watkins Glen International, the world-famous 3.4-mile road course in upstate New York, marking a weekend that stands as an icon of all Grand-Am seasons. The Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT), which is based just four Interstate highway hours away in Phoenixville, Pa., approaches this 2 ½-hour race on very familiar turf as an opportunity to revitalize their hopes for a championship in the Street Tuner class with the #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race car.

Currently sitting runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship, Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) drivers Andrew Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and Kristian Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., and team members head cross-country and westward to historic Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, Calif., for round 4 of the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series which can represent a complex logistical challenge for East coast-based teams.

After contending for the Drivers’ Championship in the Grand-Am Koni Challenge last year, the Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) returns on May 15-16, 2009, to Laguna Seca Raceway which serves as the fourth round in this very competitive series. Returning drivers Kristian Skavnes and Andrew Aquilante will share driving duties in their #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B sedan. After a one-year hiatus from the Grand-Am Street Tuner class visiting this historic race course, SRRT is looking forward to a strong showing at this exciting venue.

The Subaru Road Racing Team, along with its drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, left the New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt Raceway circuit with a firm grip on third place in the Manufacturer points and second place in the Driver Championship points. Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and co-driver Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., drove the SRRT Phoenix #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B sedan to a sixth place finish in the 2h30m race.

Subaru Road Racing Team drivers Andrew Aquilante and Kris Skavnes enter the third race of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge tied with two other drivers for the series points lead, following a fifth place finish in Saturday’s thrilling 2h30m race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. The 30-car race featured a stirring drive by the 21-year old Aquilante, of Phoenixville, who started the race from the pole position, which he earned by a minuscule 0.003 seconds on the last lap of Friday’s qualifying sessions.

The Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) opened its 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series racing season with a strong second place finish Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Both SRRT teammates, Andrew Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., and Kris Skavnes, Sparta, N.J., drove well enough to lead the race during their respective stints.  Aquilante qualified the #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B on the pole in a field of 32 other Street Tuner competitors and led the first 29 laps.
