Held on the 2.258-mile, 15-turn circuit, and from a 15th place qualifying position, only 0..765 seconds off the pole, Spaude and Aquilante raced their 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI to as high as seventh place in the 29-car Grand Sport field.

Driving a car race-prepared and tuned by Phoenix Performance of Phoenixville, Pa., Andrew Aquilante of Phoenixville, Pa., and co-driver Bret Spaude, of Bushnell, Fla. whose ages combined (44 years) amount to less than most of their individual competitors, took the green flag from a season-best 11th spot on the 31-car starting grid, and ran as high as second place under pit stop sequencing.

The tenth of 11 races in the 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge series season, this weekend’s 2.5-hour run on the massive 4.486-mile, 24-turn road course west of Salt Lake City in the Utah desert, known as Miller Motorsports Park, will take place on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4pm ET. Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, co-drivers in the Subaru Road Racing Team’s (SRRT) #111 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B, will enter the race sitting in second place in the Street Tuner class points, 25 points from the championship lead.

On lap 94 of last Saturday’s 134-lap race on the 1.53-mile Lime Rock Park circuit near Lakeville, Conn., an over-anxious driver running behind SRRT driver Kristian Skavnes nudged Skavnes off the track while the Sparta, N.J., driver was running seventh in the Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B race car.
